THE course

The Heritage Harbour Golf Resort course is a risk/reward golf course that offers 5 sets of tees to allow players of all levels to chose the level of difficulty that they wish to take on.  Don’t let the scorecard fool you into thinking this will be a birdie fest with it’s length as there are Six (6) very challenging Par-3’s and Five (5) risk/reward Par-5’s that will have the best of golfers licking their wounds if they aren’t on their A-Game.   The Par-4’s present a different challenge in themselves with a lot of hazards and strategically placed bunkers that in some cases will help save you from the penalty areas and others that will gobble up a slightly off line tee shot leaving a challenging bunker shot from the fairway.  The collection areas around the greens will provide different options to try to get up and down.  You may chose to putt or bump and run off the tightly mown areas, but don’t come up short or you may have the same shot again.  Pitching to the elevated greens from these areas will require precise contact to get it close.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

This starting hole offers the player a spacious fairway but correct distance and placement off the tee is key for a comfortable approach shot distance.  Long hitters can challenge the green from the tee but the elevated green is guarded by two very well placed bunkers in front and challenging collection areas on both sides.  The green tilts from back to front with a decent left to right pitch especially in the front third.  A well placed approach shot could set up a round starting birdie.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

Trust that there is plenty of room left off the tee when you are hitting over the wetland.  Keep your tee shot well left away from the lake that goes from tee to greed on the right side of the hole.  The approach shot requires accuracy with water looming right and collection areas left and long.  The recontoured fairway will allow shots to feed onto the putting surface if a player wants to attempt a bump and run type shot, but be leery that too far left will leave you with a trick up and down from a challenging collection area.  Par here is a good score.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

The first of the “Signature” par 5’s.  A large crushed shell bunker down the left side and a new fairway bunker on the right side frame the landing area for the tee shot very well.  Bombs away on this par 5 that is reachable in two for the big hitter.  The lay-up shot requires good placement down the left side of the fairway to have a good angle into the green. This small green requires good distance control with typically a short iron to put yourself in scoring position.  This hole provides another good scoring opportunity early in the round.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

The first Par 3 presents quite the challenge.  No forced carry over water, but push your tee shot a little and your ball is likely a gator snack.  Left side of the green is protected by a well-placed bunker that offers nothing favorable if you miss it long or left.  Tee shot accuracy is rewarded here, and par is a good score.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

This is likely the toughest par 4 on the front nine.  The fairway is perched up atop the long crushed shell bunker that follows down the entire length of the hole.  Lots of fairway out there, but bombers beware as it narrows down the further out you hit it.  This green is huge and presents a player with multiple approach shot strategies based on the hole location.  A front location makes for easier scoring opportunity while a back left will certainly challenge the best of ball-strikers to get it close.  Par here should certainly be celebrated.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

Avoiding the guardian bunkers with your tee shot sets the stage for this great Par 5 (Special Note: Par 4 for the Pro/Scratch player).  Once in position from the tee players are guided up the right side of the hole with their second shot in order to attack the green with an aggressive approach shot from a good angle.  If your in position to go for the green in two be prepared for a tricky up and down should you not hit the green.  The elbow shaped green runs from right to left and front to back so players can feed the ball into the hole if they want to snuggle it close for a birdie opportunity.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

The final par 4 on the front nine is no slouch, bomb your tee shot at the two bunkers on the right, they are way out there and tough to reach.  The approach shot into this bunker-less green requires some precision to set up a birdie chance.  Missing the green left or long present challenging up and down from the collection areas.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

Albeit your likely hitting a mid to short iron into this green, accuracy is key.  Players now can access the green from the front with a lower trajectory shot or choose to bring it in high and go flag hunting.  Two bunkers guard the green.  A miss right of the green is certainly a problematic up and down.  Take 3 here and move on.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

Strategy is key to your success on this “Signature” Dog-Leg left Par 5.  An inviting large fairway presents itself from the tee.  The challenge comes with your second shot.  Going over the new crushed shell area will leave you a short wedge into the green. If your looking for a safer route head down the right side of the fairway.  Getting to this green in two is only for the seasoned player that can flight the ball over or around the large Oak tree guarding the left side of the approach to the putting surface.  Three well played shots should set up a birdie opportunity as you head to the 10th.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

Oh my, don’t miss it left!!  A big inviting green looks inviting but you’ll work for a par here.  Missing short right actually is a reasonable bail out area, but leaves you with a tricky pitch shot with water long.  Club selection is key here and if your feeling timid just play for the front apron and work your way back to the hole.  Par here goes a long way to a good start on the back nine.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

This two hole corridor (11 & 12) may be the best in the area.  If your feeling good with the tee ball, bombs away and split the fairway bunkers for a chance to drive it on the green.  A miss right, over the bunkers, will work but you better have a pretty nifty wedge game into a narrow green with water long and big collection area short/right.  Getting comfortable on this hole may take a few rounds, but it definitely a scoring opportunity.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

Is there an easy Par 3 out here?  Yes, later in your round #17!  But right now you must play this one and it requires certain accuracy.  Water left and wetland right offer virtually no bail out zone.  Long left is no peach either.  Get a yardage, grab your clubs and approach this shot with confidence not fear!!

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

Game on with this Par 5.  Bombs away down the right side of the fairway, make sure you avoid the fairway bunkers left off the tee.  The second shot should be towards the two bunkers on the left side of the hole about 85 yards short of the green.  Laying up over here will give you great angle into the green and virtually any hole location.  If your feeling BOLD, take it right at the green in two and see if you can get yourself an eagle chance.  It’s reachable if your tee shot is near the crossing cart path.  This expanded green now has a guardian bunker that protects a right side hole location.  Proceed with caution, this is a thinking players hole.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

This short iron par 3 has always been challenging, especially with all the passer’s-by watching you.  Wind can play tricks on your ball here so choose your club wisely.  Short right is the only spot to miss for an easy up and down.  Missing long or left are problematic.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

New framing bunkers really give you the vision on where to hit your tee shot.  Down the middle gives you a great chance to get on in regulation.  A well protected long front to back green provides some challenging hole locations.  If the flag is in the back, play to the middle or front and work your way back to the hole.  A miss left of this green won’t play very easy, missing right will give you multiple creative options for an up and down.

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

Time for another “Signature” Par 5. A big open fairway invites the BIG tee shot.  The challenge begins with your second shot.  Go for it or lay up ?  For those risking it, bomb it straight over the crushed shell bunker.  Clearing it but missing the putting surface will give you a variety of up and down opportunities. If your laying up, navigate to the right, the further right you are, the more level to the green you will be to see the hole location and attack the flag.  This is a birdie hole for sure, now go get one!

HOW TO PLAY THE HOLE

The tee shot is critical here.  Play away from the right side fairway bunkers, they are certainly a hazard to avoid.  The guardian bunker in front forces a player left for safety.  If your feeling bold challenge the bunker and take dead aim.  A play up the left side hills will give you a fairly decent chance for an up and down par.
